Cypress Knees

Oh but he does not understand!
I see dragons and lovers in the firmament,
The plight of warriors and cache lace
In the tresses of Amazonian trees

Those eyes do not behold the people
Reaching out in cypress knees
Clutching their children to their breasts and carrying burdens!

He does not catch the devilish intentions in the sidelong smirk
Of the bearded old man bowed by his walk
Bearing mischiefs of his youth
Nor the erotic way vines clutch tight
To its earthen mistress as though she will soon uproot and leave

Instead, he stands in front of the empty glass
And describes his eyes simply as brown
Where I find cinnamon and kindness

No, he does not behold any of it
But side by side, in path, we find dimension
And I find his vision perfect.
